How's that for a title to draw you in? I'm not kidding, though. It's probably one of the best decorating/house/painting tips I've ever gotten, and it's from my dear friend ~ who has a gorgeous house and definitely knows what she's talking about! Ready for it?
Carry the paint swatches from your house in your wallet.
So simple!
Those in the above picture are mine, although I do have a few rooms missing that haven't been redone yet. And yep, that's my wallet. It's old and so fat I have to use a rubber band to keep it closed.
Anyway, back to the tip ~ keeping your paint swatches with you will save you so many headaches! If you are debating whether an item will look good in your house, all you have to do is whip out that swatch and you'll know! (It doesn't have to be all matchy-matchy, but at least make sure it doesn't clash!) If you are at the paint store, searching for the perfect paint for your next room to be redone....whip out those swatches and make sure they all blend well!
What are your best decorating tips?? Leave them in the comments and I'll pick some of my favorites!
yes...you sucked me in with the title...but it truly is an excellent tip, so thanks!

My hair lady redid her studio and it looked awesome. I told her I have such a hard time deciding if colors will look good together, so I never try anything unique. She said the best decorating tip she ever had was to go to Joanne's (or somewhere else where they sell lots of fabric)and find a piece of fabric that you love and has multiple colors in it. (Like some sort of paisley or floral print thing). You don't actually have to like the design in the fabric, just the way the colors go together. Then match the paint in your house to those colors (at least the rooms that need to "coordinate" because you see them together - like a living room and dining room). Look for accents in colors similar to the other colors in the fabric. It's even better if the fabric you find is some sort of accent pillow that you can use in the room you're decorating.
ReplyDeleteHi Angie, that is a great tip. I should have added eggshell to the last (old) paint chip (bought semi-gloss instead) and now have shiny chairs. Went back for the egg shell so I could finish painting the kitchen hutch.

I should do this for some of our room colours and I also have samples of our bathroom counters in my wallet. This totally explains why my wallet is so huge! ;) I'm your newest follower!
