4th of July Decor on the Cheap: Wreath

For some reason, I have never decorated much for the 4th of July, and this year I wanted to start remedying that.  Since I don't exactly devote a large portion of our budget to seasonal decorating, I needed to come up with some cheap ideas to make our home a little more festive and patriotic.  I turned to the blogosphere and found this cutey wreath from The Creative Imperative.

I loved the idea, wanted to come up with something similar, and here's what I ended up with....

Looking back, I think I should have made the stripes a little thinner so they looked more American Flag-like and not so much like a candy cane, but that's ok.  Please note there are exactly 13 buttons ~ how very colonial of me!

Patriotic?  It's a wreath version of an American flag.  Check.
Easy?  A little time consuming, but my 5 year old probably could have done it, so Check.
Cheap?  I already had the yarn and buttons, so all I needed was the wreath form.  I bought a straw wreath for under $3 at Joann's ~ Check!

As a bonus, I finally took my Spring Wreath off the front door!  Yep, now that it's officially summer, bird's nests were officially starting to look weird and out of place.

**Don't forget to enter my very first giveaway, ending 6/30......check it out ~ there's new stuff in Katie's shop!**

Linking up to a few of my favorites!

It's always such an honor to be featured!  Thanks to the following...

So cute! I don't think the stripes are too far apart at all. It fits well with that scale.

How adorable is that?!! Just love anything with sweet buttons, can't go wrong and your wreath is simply fabulous! Love it and I so might have to borrow (OK steal) your idea. I'm so bad about wreaths, I really do need to get a standard wreath form, I always use cardboard. (ducking head in shame) Take care :)

Love the buttons. They give them that country, American feel.

Doesn't look like a candy cane to me either (although that's an idea to keep in mind~ha!) I think it came out great! Love the idea of yarn and buttons! Thanks for sharing, Angie!

I agree - WAY more flag-like rather than candy cane! I love this - a few changes to something you already know how to do (the yarn wrapping) and voila! New, timely home decor! : )

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that your image was posted on someone's shop and she didn't give credit. She has stolen images from a lot of different bloggers and, until this morning, was passing them off as her own. I wrote something on her wall letting her know it isn't OK to steal images; I thought you should know about it though. I know you put a lot of love into your wreath, photos and blog post so I just think it's uncool what she's doing!

This is adorable, nice job!! I have started using foam "noodles" (kids pool toy floaty thing)from the dollar store. I cut a little of the end and duct tape it together. Works great and you can change the size

Made this wreath to decorate my front door for the summer! Memorial Day, 4th of July and will probably leave it up for Labor Day too!
Thanks so much for sharing! I am not crafty at all and I was able to do this so if I can do it pretty much anyone can :)
Thanks so much for sharing!

Wow, this 4th of July décor is really pretty. I am glad that the wreath can be made at very low cost. I will surely try something like this for my birthday bash that I am going to host at the local New York Event Venues and will use 4th of July theme for party.
